Ben Rosenthal
Psychotherapy Intern
Ben's path to perinatal mental health began when a close friend had a complicated delivery and he provided overnight support to her and her partner. The transition into parenthood cracks everything open: how we were parented, how we relate to our partners and community, how we imagine ourselves as caregivers, and all the complex historical patterns that swirl through those questions. From the moment we start thinking of having children, we enter a profound relational and life cycle moment where there is space for deep transformation.
Ben is a second year Master's student at the University of Chicago. Before graduate school, he completed Buddhist Chaplaincy training through the Sati Institute for Buddhist Studies and brings two decades of Zen meditation practice into his clinical work. He has also spent several years working in early childhood education, including infant daycare. Ben is certified in Level 1 Gottmann Method Couples Therapy and integrates ACT within a relational framework to help clients connect with their values and with each other. He would also encourage those with different gender identities than him to reach out: if some of the friction in your partnerships lives in gendered dynamics, working with a male-presenting therapist can be a chance to explore and change your relationship to those patterns.
Ben is thrilled to join the team at the Perinatal Mental Health Center of Chicago as a psychotherapy intern this year, working with couples and individuals. Reach out to schedule today!
